Program

We will abide by all requirements specified by the MA Youth Sports guidelines referenced above, including modifications to those guidelines over time. Masks will be required at all times for all players and coaches, and there will be a zero-tolerance policy for non-compliance. We are requesting that players commit to CCYB as their only high-risk activity this winter to minimize exposure (i.e., do not sign up for a winter AAU program and also play CCYB).

Practices, clinics, and games will take place at Boston Sports Club (weekdays and some weekends) on Winter Street in Waltham or The Millworks in Westford (weekends only). We will have three components to the program this season, all of which will be paid for separately and charged once we are certain we can offer the program in question. No partial refunds will be provided in the event we are unable to continue the season, regardless of the reason, which is part of the reason for this approach. Because of the demand for private gym space, we are being required to pay for rental fees in advance, so this money is a sunk cost.

1) Practices – Each team will have one practice during the week that will start the week of November 16.  Practice duration will vary by age group, with 75-minute practices for 4th-6th grades and 110-minute practices for 7th/8th grades. 4th and 5th grade practices will begin at 6 p.m. 6th grade will start at 6 p.m. or 7:20 p.m. 7th/8th grade will start at 7:20 p.m. The specific day of the week will be selected based on the schedule of coaches assigned to each team. Teams will enjoy 80-minute Saturday pre-season practices during the months of November and December (including the weekends after Thanksgiving and Christmas).  All practices will take place at Boston Sports Club on Winter Street in Waltham.

In order to minimize up-front spend for families and manage the risk of cancellation, two payments will be required: one for practices through December 31, and another for practices from Jan-Mar 2021.

Fee:  $453 ($292 due by November 6 and $161 due by December 31)

2) Clinics - Clinics for boys and girls will be run by professional coaches and are segmented by age group (4th-6th and 7th-8th). They will take place at Boston Sports Club on Winter Street in Waltham on Sundays from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. from November 22 through December 27. Clinics will be capped at 16 players per age group, allowing for an 8:1 coach/player ratio, and will include both boys and girls. Players will be required to bring their own ball and hand sanitizer to these sessions.  Concord Recreation will also be offering clinics on Sundays after January 1 by grade level (details to follow once they are published).

Fee: $180

3) Games – Assuming games are approved by the state, each team will play one game each week. To avoid lengthy drives to Mass Premier and Dana Barros to participate in Metrowest games, CCYB has worked with Bedford to organize a cohort of neighboring Metrowest towns to run a local league based at Millworks in Westford and BSC in Waltham. Our intention is to rent the new Millworks gym building (four courts) so we can enforce a common set of COVID rules.

Games will tentatively start on January 2 and continue through mid-March, including both weekends of February break.  They will be played either Saturday or Sunday between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.  We will attempt to schedule games at a consistent time for each grade level so they are predictable. If the state does not allow game play, we will use this time for a coached skills clinic or a second weekly practice until such time as they are allowed.

Fee: $147 (Estimated - due December 31)

COVID Policy

CCYB has published a COVID Policy on our website that will be refined as additional details are released by the state.

We are requiring all players and coaches to wear masks at practices, clinics, and if allowed, games.  Players will be required to bring their own balls and hand sanitizer to practice, and we will take frequent breaks to sanitize hands and equipment.  Please review the policy in detail, as we will have a zero-tolerance policy for violations.

Uniforms

While the game situation is still unclear at this time, you should assume you will need to order a new uniform.  Players with uniforms bought for the 2019-20 season may use that uniform.  Cost for the uniform is $75 for the jersey and $25 for the shorts.  We will hold off as long as possible before requiring families to order one.

Registration

Registration for the season will open on Wednesday, October 21 and will close on Sunday, November 1. There will be no late registrations, so please contact those families you know may have interested and make sure they are aware. Any player who is not assigned to a team or can not commit to team play will still have the ability to register for the drop-in clinics. When you register, you will automatically be placed on a wait list. This does not guarantee that your player will be placed on a team. You will not be charged for the first payment of the practice until you are assigned to a team. It is expected that if your player tries out for a team, that they are committing to both practices and games (if allowed). Because of the level of demand we expect, we would kindly request that your child not try out this season if they are on the fence about playing, and instead attend the clinics.

Tryouts

There will be no tryouts to start the season since we are not allowed to have general scrimmages, so we will base team assignments on last year’s rosters. If your player did not play travel basketball last year, we will place your player on a team with open roster spots according to the date registered. If and when we are approved for game play, we will take feedback from our coaches in terms of roster moves and may have a tryout prior to games starting. We understand this is not ideal, but it’s the easiest thing to do given the number of variables in play. We are anticipating a return of many of last year’s coaches, and would ask that you both indicate your interest in coaching in the registration form. Please be sure to indicate whether or not you can commit to coaching when you register, and also send an e-mail to Tom (Girls Director, girls_director@ccybasketball.org) or Marc (Boys Director, boys_director@ccybasketball.org) with your background and interest level (head coach, assistant coach, COVID compliance manager). You will be notified of your initial team placement the week of November 2.

While this season is shaping up to be a bit different, the CCYB travel program is still a competitive program for serious players and requires a greater commitment than the Concord Recreation basketball program. Incoming 4th graders should be able to dribble consistently without traveling in order to be placed on a team.

CCYB Scholarship Donations

Every year, CCYB funds a number of scholarships for players.  Because of the increase in costs this season and the tightness of our finances, we are anticipating a greater need. If you can afford it, we would appreciate a donation to the CCYB Scholarship Fund to help defray these expenses.  CCYB is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, and all contributions are tax deductible.  Checks can be addressed to Concord-Carlisle Youth Basketball, Inc. and mailed to P.O. Box 54, Concord, MA 01742.  Be sure to include your address so we can send an acknowledgment letter for tax purposes.

In closing, we are doing our best to provide programming options that are as flexible, cost effective, and safe as possible. We are managing many variables and uncertainties, and are making decisions based on feedback from our parent survey along with the information we have at our disposal. Thanks for bearing with us. We look forward to seeing your kids on the court!

Best,

Marc, Tom, and the CCYB Board
